The members of the Health and Life Division of the Utah Insurance Department have provided superior service to our state as the health insurance market transforms to the provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The initial implementation of the federal law has been a monumental task. Under the leadership of Tanji Northrup and Nancy Askerlund, the team has worked together to educate each other, consumers, insurers, and agents on new federal laws and regulations and the unprecedented federal interaction with state law.
The Health and Life Division works with all interested parties in a collaborative process including other state agencies, the Governor’s Office, and the Legislature. The team also works closely with and provides consumer support services and regulatory guidance to Avenue H. They have effectively and efficiently developed processes for implementation of required provisions. Their efforts played a key component in the roll out of open enrollment for health insurance under the ACA late last fall resulting in a variety of insurance plans being offered on heathcare.gov. Their internal collaboration, and with others, has made a significant and lasting difference in the business community with insurers and employers, and for individual consumers.
