Bereavement (Funeral) Leave

Bereavement Leave ImageAn employee may receive a maximum of three days bereavement leave per occurrence with pay, at management’s discretion, following the death of a member of the employee’s immediate family. Bereavement leave may not be charged against accrued sick or annual leave.  

The immediate family means relatives of the employee or spouse including in-laws, step relatives, or equivalent relationship as follows:

  • spouse
  • parents
  • siblings
  • children
  • all levels of grandparents
  • all levels of grandchildren

Leave should be coordinated with your supervisor and must be coded as OE (Other Emergency) along with any supporting documentation and/or comment required by the employee’s agency policy.  death in family
